Dr. Anthony Fauci could be getting the Saturday Night Live treatment soon, and though the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases hopes he's not portrayed on the show, he does know which actor he'd like to play him.

In an interview with CNN's New Day on Friday morning, anchor Alisyn Camerota said, "On a much lighter note, Saturday Night Live is back this weekend after a month of being off. What do you think the chances are that somebody will portray you?"

Fauci laughed and said, "I have no idea! I hope not," but after Camerota suggested a few actors that might be able to play him, he seemed to warm up to the idea a little. Camerota floated Ben Stiller and Brad Pitt, and Fauci laughed and said, "Oh, Brad Pitt of course!"

Since Fauci, a key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, has been speaking at news briefings alongside President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, he's become a symbol of steady leadership for many Americans.

The man is extremely competent, which is a particularly attractive quality these days, and in several instances he's proven that he isn't afraid to challenge or disagree with Trump's leadership.

Fauci's current beloved status makes it seem highly likely that he'd get a shoutout or two on SNL. The show took a three-week hiatus to adhere to coronavirus social distancing protocols, but on Thursday they announced that a remote episode of the show will air this coming Saturday, complete with the "Weekend Update" and other segments.

Tune in to see if Ben Stiller or Brad Pitt calls into the SNL video chat as Fauci, though in my humble opinion, the role should be played by the one and only Steve Carell.
