Here’s why a movie about Flamin' Hot Cheetos is actually kind of awesome
McDonald's isn't the only junk food company that has a story bigger than its product.
Flamin' Hot Cheetos is getting its own movie, one that won't focus on spicy mascot Chester Cheetah. Instead, Flamin' Hot will focus on the story of the snack's creator, Richard Montañez, the son of an immigrant who found his way into the snack business as a janitor.
First reported by Variety, the film is set for production by Fox Searchlight and producer DeVon Franklin. Like 2016's The Founder, the film will focus on Montañez's life story and his path to corporate food mogul, according to the publisher.
Montañez details his rise to corporate executive success in his 2013 book A Boy, a Burrito, and a Cookie. The son of a Mexican immigrant, he apparently grew up in Southern California picking grapes, then became a janitor at Frito-Lay, PepsiCo's snack company — the perfect place to develop a billion-dollar flamin' hot snack idea.
Twitter is divided on the idea, with most reading past the headline to Montañez's pretty amazing life story.
