Finally some pleasant news from Westeros.

At Balticon, a science fiction convention in Baltimore, Maryland this past weekend, George R. R. Martin revealed a cool detail about everyone's favorite Game of Thrones knight Brienne (played by Gwendoline Christie).

She's a descendant of Ser Duncan the Tall, a famous Westerosi knight who was about 7 feet tall.

Truly hardcore Game of Thrones show fans might recognize the name since it's been briefly mentioned. However, Martin has been very passionate about the character in his writing, even penning novellas about Ser Duncan, nicknamed "Dunk," and his squire "Egg," a.k.a. future king Aegon V Targaryen.

Their adventures take place about 90 years before the current books. The three novellas are titled The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003) and The Mystery Knight (2010).

In the current season, Brienne is busy catching eyes from a thirsty Tormund. Guess he's got a thing for tall girls with extremely cool ancestors.
