‘NCIS’ showrunner Gary Glasberg dies at 50

The writer/producer also worked on NBC’s "Crossing Jordan" and Fox's "Bones."

Gary Glasberg, the long-time showrunner of NCIS and creator of NCIS: New Orleans has died, Mashable has confirmed.

Glasberg, 50, was "known for his creativity, ever-present smile and kindness to all, was adored by his cast, crews and everyone who had the fortune of knowing him," according to a release put out by CBS.

He joined NCIS in 2009 and became an executive producer the following year. He had been showrunner of NCIS since 2011, and in 2014 created NCIS: New Orleans.

"Gary was our rock, our cheerleader, our team captain," the cast and crew of NCIS said in a statement. "He inspired us with his leadership, his creative instincts and keen insight. ‘NCIS’ will not be the same without him, and each of us will miss his smiling face and unwavering humor, which lifted us every day.”

“Today is an overwhelmingly sad day for ‘NCIS,’ CBS and anyone who was blessed to spend time with Gary Glasberg," CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said in a statement. "We have lost a cherished friend, gifted creative voice, respected leader and, most memorably, someone whose warmth and kindness was felt by all around him. Our heartfelt thoughts and sympathies go out to his wife, Mimi, his two sons and all his family and friends.” 

Glasberg's additional television credits included Shark, The Mentalist, Crossing Jordan, The $treet and Bones.
