George R.R. Martin short story headed to the big screen
The Winds of Winter is no nearer, but George R.R. Martin's short children's story "The Ice Dragon" will be made into an animated movie. Martin will be a producer on the film.
"The Ice Dragon" (no relation to Viserion, R.I.P. – sort of) tells the story of Adara, a "winter child" who finds an ice dragon after her mother's death. Her new friend must help her protect her home from the fiery enemy dragons of the North.
It may sound like a factually inaccurate version of Song of Ice and Fire, but "The Ice Dragon" actually predates the series behind Game of Thrones by over a decade – it released in 1980.
The Ice Dragon does not yet have a release date, but it could end up releasing close to the final season of Game of Thrones, or perhaps even later when fans are jonesing (Thronesing? help) for a fix of GRRM.
