Police dogs aren't the only ones sniffing out drugs.

A regular, untrained family golden retriever in Oregon dug up something interesting in his own backyard. The 18-month-old dog, Kenyon, came back with what his family thought was a time capsule.

After they all gathered around to see what was inside and film themselves opening it, they realized it was ... not a time capsule.

They called the police, and the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office identified the contents of the package: $85,000 worth of black tar heroin.

“Opioid addiction and overdose deaths are on the rise and with the help of Kenyon this large quantity of heroin is removed from our community," Yamhill County Sheriff Tim Svenson said in a Facebook post.

The sheriff's office gave Kenyon a K9 citation ribbon. More importantly, they made him a K9 narcotics officer for life.

Kenyon's owners asked the sheriff's office to stay anonymous—maybe so they're not known as the family with $85,000 of heroin in their backyard. But if digging up his own backyard gets boring, Kenyon has a new career path.
