Harry Styles slays with his surprise cover of Kanye's 'Ultralight Beam'
Harry Styles likes The Life of Pablo, apparently.
The One Direction heartthrob-turned-solo star celebrated his first album on Saturday with an intimate London performance. Among the new material Styles let loose with was an unexpected cover: "Ultralight Beam," off of Kanye West's latest album.
The gospel-flavored original features West with The-Dream, Kelly Price, Kirk Franklin, and Chance the Rapper. Styles' cover replaces the choir with the mournful wail of a reverb-heavy guitar, and it's a perfect complement to the singer's alt-rock flavor.
Listen to an extended clip, captured by The Sun's Howell Davies, and hear it for yourself.

And for contrast, here's the original Yeezy cut. It's got quite a different sound.
The May 13 performance served as both an album release party -- it dropped on May 12 -- and a prelude to Styles' upcoming world tour this fall.
All of which is to say: this probably won't be the last time you hear that cover.
