Powerful Mannequin Challenge video highlights the Black Lives Matter movement
The latest installment in the Mannequin Challenge social media trend is a powerful freeze frame look at police brutality, civil rights and the Black Lives Matter movement.
In the short video directed by online actor and producer Simone Shepherd, the camera pans across several frozen scenes as a heartbeat pulses in the background.
The vignettes depict key moments from the past months and years: shootings and fatalities, including those of Philando Castile, Sandra Bland and Alton Sterling; Trayvon Martin with his Skittles and hoodie up; San Francisco 49ers football player Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the national anthem; and Black Lives Matter protesters with their fists raised.
