LONDON -- Of the many joys of travelling on the Tube in the city, having your head rammed into a stranger's armpit as a packed carriage rattles through humid tunnels is one of the more memorable.

The experience might get a little more pleasant this summer if these shirts from Hardvark make it onto the backs of enough commuters.

They're been designed from a woven merino wool fabric by the outdoor clothing company, which "warms, wicks, stretches, breathes, won't wrinkle and resists odour," Jody Symons, who started Hardvark on Kickstarter last year, told Mashable.

The shirts combine the performance of a merino base layer you might traditionally use for outdoor pursuits with a smart look that should work in an office environment.

The company claims there's no need to iron them too, which adds a million bonus points in our book. And they say you can wear them on a cycle commute.

"Shirts are an essential item in every man’s wardrobe," Symons said. "But cotton shirts are high maintenance, especially for the active guy with a mobile lifestyle."

"They crumple easily, restrict movement, cope badly with even modest perspiration and require washing and ironing after every single wear."

At £129 ($188) each they're far from cheap, but if they work as they claim to, they should be standard issue for every city commuter.
