Michelle Obama is a breath of fresh air in a tense week.

The First Lady is the cover star of the new issue of Vogue, and the accompanying profile confirms just how much we'll miss her wit and grace. Yes, White House staffers have definitely cried at the thought of saying goodbye.

But at least she might get to enjoy simple pleasures like browsing convenience store aisles once more to pick up a copy of Vogue or some gum on a whim.

Obama considers the possibility of stepping foot in the CVS down the street from the White House, "Fun for me! But a complete hassle for my Secret Service agents.”

First Lady is a strange position, as Obama lays out.

"I could have spent eight years doing anything, and at some level, it would have been fine," she explains. "I could have focused on flowers.I could have focused on decor. I could have focused on entertainment. Because any First Lady, rightfully, gets to define her role."

But, of course, she did not focus on flowers (although she cares for the White House garden) and instead gave her attention to children's health, girls' education and generally inspiring the next generation.

“For all of you sitting here, with those doubts in your head —because those whispers of doubt, they stay with you for a very long time — ignore them," Obama tells an auditorium full of Howard University students in the cover story. "I still carry that with me today, as First Lady of the United States, because there are people who don’t think I should be doing that either.”
