Motorola is lashing out at the cult of Apple.

The cell phone company hosted a focus group in which it convinced a group of Apple fans that its Moto Z was an iPhone prototype.

After showcasing the snap-on battery and projector, the brand made the final reveal. The potential customers don't seem too phased by the switch.

"That's fantastic," one said.

In a print ad that will run alongside the commercial, the company makes the case for ditching Apple.

"When the first generation iPhone came out, it changed everything," the copy reads. "It was the rebel, the challenger. And it knocked us off our perch. But that was nine years ago"

The campaign is called "Skip the Sevens" and the goal is to convince consumers that Motorola's snap-on accessories are more innovative than the incremental improvements offered in the latest iPhone release.
