On a Monday when the nation at large is suffering democracy hangover, a small fraction are also recovering from New York Comic Con. The four-day conference held in Manhattan over the weekend brought together science fiction and fantasy fans to celebrate the best of film, television and books. Mashable was all over this smorgasbord of geekery, and we picked our favorite panel revelations from the weekend's offerings.

"What's wrong with Matthew Crawley?" my mother asked, aghast, when we saw the first trailers for Legion on FX. I can now tell her that his new ungroomed character is schizophrenic and possibly telepathic, and that he might be part of the larger Marvel Universe and connected to Professor Charles Xavier. HERE FOR ALL THE CROSSOVER COMIC SHOWS.

The first three nerve-racking minutes of The Walking Dead Season 7 are terrifying

Rick survived, but he might lose his hand?? How casually horrifying! Rick vows to kill Negan, who looms over the bloody body of his latest victim, and that's the cheery note that this season will be kicking off with. "I hated shooting a lot of that, it was miserable. It sucked, it really did," added Norman Reedus.

"I think the Gotham writers are writing our actual reality right now, and that's probably the scariest thing you could possibly imagine," said actor Robin Lord Taylor before comparing Trump's Friday comments to his own character. "If Penguin was caught on a hot mic, he wouldn't say anything nearly as vulgar or disgusting."

If you're more confused than Elliot about the missing 30 days between Seasons 1 and 2 of Mr. Robot, then your salvation will arrive Nov. 1 with Mr. Robot: Red Wheelbarrow. The novel will be Elliot's prison journal, a "vomit of his thoughts," according to creator Sam Esmail. It's required reading for Robot fans and will shed light on the murkier plot points in Season 2.

Even if you've never read a page of Black Panther, the enthusiasm of a room full of fans is infectious. The panel brought together artists and writers who contributed to Black Panther, people who saw themselves in the Wakandan hero and fueled his popularity for years and years.

A brand new Doctor Who

The Doctor returns at Christmas with new companion Bill (Pearl Mackie), and showrunner Steven Moffat promises a fresh start for old fans and new. "Episode 1 really is episode 1," Moffat told fans at NYCC. "It explains the entire mythos of Doctor Who, and you can start there."

Westworld and beyond

Showrunner Jonathan Nolan gave a hard no on whether HBO's new drama would visit its Roman and Medieval counterparts, other theme parks in the style of Westworld that exist in Michael Crichton's original work. But Nolan's comment was specific only to Roman World and Medieval World, which means we might see Future World, or something brand new.
