Pakistan International Airlines may have resumed flying operations for its ATR planes, but mere clearance wasn’t apparently sufficient for the company. To ward off 'evil eye', they have reportedly sacrificed a black goat on the tarmac before the plane took off.

Staff from the airlines slaughtered a black goat yesterday ahead of the ATR plane taking off for the first time since the recent crash of PK-661 flight. The Civil Aviation Authority had suspended ATR planes and ordered tests to be undertaken to ensure their flight worthiness.

The Director of Engineering at PIA suggested that a goat be sacrificed before the first flight took off, according to GeoTV.

Sacrificing goats and other animals is a custom in some religions including Islam to bring good luck.

The PK-661 flight en route to Islamabad from Chitral crashed earlier this month, killing all 47 passengers onboard including singer Junaid Jamshed. It remains unclear what caused the crash, but according to reports, PIA insists it wasn’t due to technical faults.

For those wondering, this flight did land successfully in Multan, Pakistan.
