Prom in 2017 hardly resembles prom in 1997-- the promposals alone have reached impossible heights. There are, however, common threads tying the youth of today to the youth of yesteryear, namely the prom song.

You know the one-- the single du jour that united your senior class on the dance floor for two to four blissful minutes. Because prom is grossly overrated, the rest of your night was likely average at best. But hopefully, thanks to one of the songs we've pulled for this list, you have one solid music memory to fondly reflect on.

Now, look: I wasn't at your prom and I have no idea what the vibe at your high school was, so forgive me if the song for your year isn't exactly your song. We'd say they're safe bets, however, because they're the top songs from the week of May 15 for each of the last 26 years.

Press play, and let those teen emotions come flooding back.
