CNN has decided to part ways with host Reza Aslan after he called President Donald Trump a "piece of sh*t" for his response to the London terror attacks last week.

Aslan, who had been host of the fairly new CNN series Believer with Reza Aslan, had tweeted about Trump and the president's tweets after the London Bridge attacks. He wrote, "This piece of shit is not just an embarrassment to America and a stain on the presidency. He’s an embarrassment to humankind."

The next day, Aslan, an Iranian-American who is a religious scholar and author, apologized for the offensive tweet.

But by Friday a CNN spokesperson said, "CNN has decided not to move forward with production... We wish Reza and his production team all the best."

So season two of the acquired docu-series about religion and spirituality will be not be happening on CNN.

Aslan responded to the cancellation, saying he understands why CNN had to let him go.

"In these politically charged times, the tenor of our nation's discourse has become complicated, and I recognize that CNN needs to protect its brand as an unbiased news outlet," he wrote in a statement on Twitter.

He went to say he needs to "honor my voice." He said he agrees with CNN that they should part ways because, "I am not a journalist. I am a social commentator and scholar."

CNN's decision to fire Aslan has drawn some pushback. On Twitter many voiced their frustration that an anti-Trump host was fired. Rosie O'Donnell spoke out against the firing as did, surprisingly, Fox News host Sean Hannity.

On the other hand, now Aslan can tweet away. This should be good.
