Everyone knows a life of royalty comes with certain sacrifices, but rest assured, taking selfies is likely not one of them.

*wipes sweat from brow and breathes sigh of relief*

A recent Twitter Moment titled, "Royals can't take selfies says Meghan as she steps out with Harry" unnecessarily shook people up on a Friday. It focused on a tweet from The Mirror's royals correspondent, which noted Meghan Markle told a fan she wasn't "allowed" to take selfies at an event in Nottingham.

While Markle's comments may have sounded as though they applied to all members of the Royal Family all the time, this was likely a protocol specific to today's event and you shouldn't freak out. After all, we've seen our fair share of royal selfies before and they're epic.

If royals weren't ~allowed~ to take selfies how do you explain these beautiful shots of Prince Harry, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and even Queen Elizabeth II hardcore cheesing behind phone screens?

Mashable reached out to Kensington Palace to learn more about any sort of official protocol pertaining to royals and selfie-taking that may be in place, but they declined to comment.

However, it should be noted that the queen isn't a huge fan of mobile phones.

Back in 2014 Matthew Barzun, The Telegraph reported a former American ambassador to the UK told Tatler Magazine that she doesn't really enjoy staring at the backs of people's phones rather than their faces. Understandable.

"She was essentially saying: 'I miss eye contact,'" Barzun said.

So while members of the Royal Family might not be encouraged to go out of their way to stop and pose with their many fans, the selfies do happen occasionally.

Not even Markle could avoid stepping in front of a fan's front-facing camera today.

So, if you see Meghan Markle anytime soon, maybe just snap a regular photo (and add yourself in later,) while ensuring you make polite eye contact.
