When Samsung released its 256GB storage chip, we were impressed.

Today, Samsung has doubled down on that. Literally. The Korean company announced it's begun production of a 512GB chip, the most powerful chip the industry has ever seen, reports BusinessWire.

This chip will give upcoming flagship Samsung phones unparalleled storage capacity. They'll be able to store 130 10-minute 4K video clips. (A 64GB chip could store only 13.)

Phones with the new chip will feature increased speed and performance as well. A full, 5GB HD video can be transferred from 512GB chip to a solid-state hard drive in about six seconds, Samsung says, which is over eight times faster than it takes to transfer one from a typical microSD card. And the phones will be advanced enough to handle multiple demanding operations at once, such as downloading a video while also searching through big files in dual-app mode.

Samsung claims the chip incorporates a proprietary energy-saving circuit design, which should help processes from killing your battery.

Even your camera can benefit from the new tech: The chip will enable the shooting of bursts in high resolution.

The chip is constructed out of eight 64-layer V-NAND chips, the same memory chips that make up Samsung's 256GB chip, and a controller chip that translates commands into actions. It takes up the same amount of space a 256GB chip takes up, but is twice as dense.

Samsung also announced it will increase its production of 256GB chips to meet growing demand for premium phones.
