LONDON -- Donald Trump is visiting Aberdeen this week, and local residents have a message waiting for him.

Behold: the Mexican flag waving proudly near the border of Trump International Golf Links Course, a cheeky retort to the U.S. presidential candidate's notoriously divisive pledge to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

This reaction stems from a more longterm campaign called Tripping Up Trump, a movement based in Aberdeenshire dedicated to fighting Trump's use of compulsory purchase orders to develop a golf resort in the area.

Local farmer Michael Forbes, a key figure in the local resistance, has been named responsible for the initial flag. In 2012, his defiance of Trump won him the "Top Scot" prize, which is awarded on the basis of a public ballot to the Scot who “has made the greatest impact in furthering Scotland’s reputation at home and abroad.”

“The point of the flag is to show solidarity with the Mexicans and every other group that Trump has decried, derided, insulted, and tried to marginalise,” resident David Milne, who has also raised the Mexican flag in protest against the billionaire tycoon, told BuzzFeed News.

Anthony Baxter's 2012 documentary film You've Been Trumped chronicles the ongoing conflict between the Scottish homeowners and the American business magnate.

As far as any additional reaction to Trump's upcoming visit, residents have dismissed taking further measures: "We wanted to show solidarity but we don’t think he is worth doing anything more,” says Milne.
