Blumhouse Productions continues to add to its horror empire, securing the rights to the hit Boom! Studios' comic series Something Is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera.

The series follows monster hunter Erica Slaughter, who can see monsters that adults can't. As Something Is Killing the Children kicks off, she heads to Archer's Peak, Wisconsin, where frightening creatures are devouring the small town's children. The comics have sold over five million copies globally and won multiple Eisner Awards since launch.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Blumhouse picked up the rights to Something Is Killing the Children after a bidding war that also involved companies like Lionsgate and Netflix. Netflix was originally slated to adapt the series for TV, with The Haunting of Hill House's Mike Flanagan and Tracy Major attached. After they stepped away, Dark showrunners Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese were set to develop the series. However, Netflix passed on the project in late 2024.

Blumhouse plans to adapt Something Is Killing the Children into a live-action feature film and an adult animated series. Tynion will direct the TV series, and artist Dell'Edera will co-executive produce.

With Something Is Killing the Children, Blumhouse looks to continue its hot streak of horror adaptations. Its 2021 adaptation of Joe Hill's 2004 short story The Black Phone was a box office success, while its adaptation of the smash video game Five Nights at Freddy's became its highest-grossing movie yet.
