Arachnophobes, this is your worst nightmare. A teenager in Sydney, Australia watched her car roll into the sea, after a spider ended crawled on her while she was inside the vehicle.

The 18-year-old woman had parked alongside the Bayview boat ramp on Saturday morning, when a huntsman spider landed on her lap after dropping from the sun shade, according to the Daily Telegraph. Side note: Huntsman spiders hiding in the sun visors and/or glove boxes of Australian cars is a common occurrence and a national concern.

The driver jumped out of her car, trying her best to fight off the spider. Unfortunately, she forgot to keep an eye on her car which gently rolled into the water, drifting 25 metres (82 feet) away from the beach.

Local man Stuart Cooper was concerned there was someone inside the car when he spotted it heading for the ocean, as did the driver's mother, who'd shown up.

"The daughter was just embarrassed that her very expensive car was drifting out in the waterways, and it wasn't a boat," Cooper told 7 News. Divers were sent to retrieve the car from the water, in an operation which took around two hours.

Easier said than done, we know, but if only the driver had tried staying calm. After all, huntsman spiders, despite their size and appearance, aren't dangerous and they prefer to run away rather than bite.
