LONDON -- An infographic posted on Twitter by the Sunday Times Magazine has sparked controversy after people found it to be "sexist". In an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon discussed a miscarriage she had in 2011, and her experience of being a "childless" female politician. However, an infographic created by the publication to accompany the piece prompted a fierce backlash on social media. The infographic -- entitled "Childless politicians" -- showed six female politicians who do not have children.

The infographic -- which did not have an equivalent showing male politicians without children -- was criticised on Twitter for being "sexist".

Many people pointed out the lack of discussion around male politicians who do not have children.

Some people joined the discussion to make some excellent points.

Some took issue with the word "childless", which they felt was pejorative.

While Sturgeon remained silent on the infographic, she tweeted her reasons for going public about her miscarriage, and her hopes that it will "break [the] 'taboo' of miscarriage".

The Sunday Times did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment.
