'Supergirl' Season 2 will introduce Superman
The man in primary colors is coming back to The CW.
The network -- the new home to Supergirl -- is in the process of casting Superman, a character that will debut in Season 2 of the Melissa Benoist-led series.
“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement, referencing the show's other EPs. "Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!"

Superman, cousin to Benoist's titular hero, was often mentioned in the first season, which ran on CBS, but was never seen in full, grown-up form. (He only appeared as a shadow, via IM, and in tiny adorable baby form.)
This, of course, would not be the first time Superman has popped up on The CW. His origin story was the subject of the network's series Smallville, which ran for ten seasons from 2001-11. The final scene of that show was a shot of Tom Welling's Clark Kent tearing off his button-up and revealing the iconic logo; though, some were disappointed by the lack of full-suit shots.
There's no telling how the series will tackle its own take on the Man of Steel, but we do know that Kara's cousin is a bit older than her, as he was already in full Superman mode when she crash-landed on Earth as a pre-teen.
We also know that at least two former Supermen are already off the table for the gig: Dean Cain plays Kara's adopted father on the series and Brandon Routh plays The Atom on another CW series.
Welling, meanwhile, has never outright rejected the idea of reprising the role, but if CW is looking for some fresh blood, fans seem to have their own ideas:
