We don't all have wads of cash to spend on fancy audio equipment. But luckily, technology has come through with some alternatives for upgrading what you have.

Boom 3D for Mac is a sound-enhancing app that brings your favorite media to life in a totally new way. How? It pumps more power and realism into the audio outputted by your Mac's speakers, or connected headset, allowing you to feel completely surrounded by the booming bass and soaring treble while you listen to music, play video games, or watch movies.

Using patent-pending 3D Surround Sound technology, Boom 3D's interface allows you to mimic a cinema-quality 5.1 mix on over-ear headphones, earbuds, or your Mac's speakers, with sliders for intensity and bass control. It also features advanced equalization settings, including multiple presets for different genres. Want to jump from dubstep to classical? (An odd choice, but you do you.) Just swap the setting and Boom 3D adjusts to provide the optimal audio for the moment.

While the standard macOS volume controls were designed for simplicity, Boom 3D provides a more nuanced level of control over playback. Its App Volume Controller brings the audio levels of every application into one location, so you don't have to rifle through all your open programs to find the one you want to adjust. There's also a mini audio player that adds 3D playback to any song—simply drag and drop to instantly hear the transformation.

You can officially change the way you listen to music for less money than your average album on iTunes. Technology is great, right? Boom 3D normally costs $16.99, but you can get it here for $9.99 right now.
