On Tuesday night, one day after Red Sox fans shouted racist taunts and hurled peanuts at Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, Sox fans gave Jones a standing ovation.

It was something of a happy ending after a long, rough day of discussion and debate following Jones told reporters after the game that Boston fans taunted him with racial epithets during Monday night's game at Fenway Park.

It's not the first time Jones has talked about poor fan behavior. In 2015, he addressed the treatment he's received at the hands of Sox fans, and he spoke out when Toronto Blue Jays fans threw a full can of beer at his teammate Hyun Soo Kim during the 2016 playoffs.

But Monday's incident struck a chord with other players who echoed Jones' complaints and stirred up a debate about the behavior of Boston sports fans.

The Red Sox formally issued an apology and Red Sox star Mookie Betts called on his team's fans to give Jones a standing ovation on Tuesday. They obliged.

After the game Tuesday, Jones said he "appreciated" the show of support but added, “I don’t want no love and support. I don’t need all that stuff. Just be normal.”
