The venerable bento box, Japan's lunchtime staple of schoolchildren and office workers alike, is one of the few things that have defied the country's famously fast-moving innovation cycles. But one new commercial from Japan offers a new idea for the busy salaryman on the go: the Bento Watch.

We're methodically shown how the whole thing is painstakingly constructed, using mini-vegetables and tempura, which are then delicately placed inside of a watch face housing. Later, we see a busy Japanese businessman deploy retractable chopsticks from the watch and begin eating his micro-lunch from the device.

Unfortunately, it's all just a nifty advertisement created by Japan's Takii Seed, a Kyoto-based company that distributes flower and vegetable seeds to farmers. It's all quite clever, and someone out there might actually want such a watch. But until we start eating our meals in tablet form, the Bento Watch is just a weird and wonderful concept device.
