On Wednesday, President Donald Trump surprised pretty much everyone when he announced via Twitter that transgender people will no longer be allowed to serve in the United States military.

Later that night, late show hosts across networks addressed the ban. Late Show host Stephen Colbert said of Trump: "Today he went from crazy to cruel."

And as Colbert noted, Trump's own history with the U.S. military isn't so noble:

"This is what really stings: They are being rejected by a rich guy who during Vietnam side-stepped the draft with four deferments and a medical disqualification for bone spurs in his foot."
