"We're what's known as... peculiar."

That's what the title character of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children tells Jacob (Asa Butterfield), the newest arrival in her hidden haven for young people with strange and wonderful abilities.

The trailer focuses primarily on visual effects, including Miss Peregrine (Eva Green) morphing into a falcon, other "peculiar" students and the "hollows" -- terrifying, soulless monsters that only Jake can see. There's also lots of air manipulation from Emma (Ella Purnell) -- marking a drastic change from Ransom Riggs' novel, in which the heroine shoots fire from her hands.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children releases in theaters Sept. 30.
