On the same day he was accused of sexual misconduct in the New York Times, comedian Louis C.K. canceled his movie premiere and an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It's still unclear if and how Colbert and his late-night peers will handle the C.K. story; many of them worked with him closely or at least in the same circles.

But Colbert wasn't about to pretend that nothing happened. He mentioned the Times story right out the gate to acknowledge C.K.'s absence on the show – and he did it in a segment about accused sexual predator Roy Moore.

“For those of you tuning in to see my interview with Louis C.K. tonight, I have some bad news,” Colbert said. “Then I have some really bad news. Louis cancelled his appearance here tonight because The New York Times broke this story today: Five women are accusing Louis C.K. of sexual misconduct."

The punchline may have spoken for Colbert himself, or for thousands of other fans of C.K. and Hollywood's growing list of sexually inappropriate men in power.

Colbert said: "When reached for comment, Jesus said, ‘La-la-la-la-la. I don’t want to hear about it, I was a big fan!’”

Sadly, Jesus, you can't ignore this.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
