They say, "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

YouTuber, game developer, and general badass NimsoNY recently posted an entirely redesigned version of Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64—and mamma mia, it's amazing. Complete with a portrait gallery of fan art, this reimagining of the original 1996 game allows players to explore the grounds of the castle, try out some new technical features, and toy with custom animations using the Mario character model from Super Mario Odyssey.

Clearly motivated by lots of love for the franchise, NimsoNY says he spent a month on the project. His justification? "I wanted to see this myself."

As many commenters have noted, this project may soon be taken down by Nintendo for copyright infringement—the gaming giant has been quick to crackdown on fan projects in the past—so grab the free download while you can. NimsoNY has said that the recreation is complete and no updates or expansions will be made available.
