In the late-1970s, John Demjanjuk, a Ukranian-born, naturalized United States citizen, was put on trial to determine his true identity and his involvement in crimes against humanity as a Nazi guard stationed at Treblinka. Over 40 years later, Netflix's upcoming true crime docu-series, The Devil Next Door, recounts the court proceedings that surrounded Demjanjuk's culpability.

Demjanjuk was regarded as a "Cleveland grandfather" in the press and by those who knew him, but prosecutors revealed the retired autoworker to be Ivan the Terrible, a horrendously vicious Nazi guard stationed at Treblinka, a concentration camp located in German-occupied Poland. The U.S. Department of Justice posited that Demjanjuk had changed his first name from "Ivan" to "John" to conceal his identity.

Although Demjanjuk was found guilty in both U.S. and Israeli courts, he maintained his innocence until his death in 2012. The Devil Next Door attempts to answer the questions that remain about Demjanjuk's life and tells the story behind an international criminal shrouded in mystery.

The Devil Next Door will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix on November 4.
