Netflix's next true crime series drops chilling trailer about dead nun

In 1969, Sister Cathy Cesnik went missing in Baltimore and was murdered.

In the spirit of Making A Murderer, Netflix's The Keepers investigates Cathy's death -- a conspiracy, a coverup, and a scandal that began over 50 years ago.

As with Making A Murderer, The Keepers interviews people from all areas of Cesnik's life, particularly the church and the Seton Keough High School where she worked.

According to Netflix:

Directed by Ryan White (Serena, The Case Against 8), The Keepers will have everyone asking the question “who killed Sister Cathy?” The series was produced by Film 45 and Tripod Media for Netflix. Along with White and Jessica Hargrave, Josh Braun, Ben Cotner, Jason Spingarn-Koff and Lisa Nishimura are executive producers.

Through interviews with dozens of friends, relatives, journalists, government officials and Baltimore citizens determined to uncover the truth, White pieces together a story that goes beyond the death of a beloved Catholic schoolteacher to encompass clergy abuse, repressed memories and government and religious institutions that he says “at best, dropped the ball over the last 45 years – and, at worst, covered it up.”

"The story is not the nun's killing -- the story is the cover up of the nun's story," one interviewee says in the chilling first trailer.

The Keepers releases on Netflix May 19.
