The Last of Us is amping up the stakes every week, and in episode 8, Ellie's coming face-to-face with a truly chilling human threat. (And a familiar face!)

In HBO's preview for the next instalment, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) is valiantly caring for a wounded Joel in the middle of winter. On a hunting run, she encounters a group of threatening survivors led by the forebodingly creepy David.

"The others want to kill you," he says in the trailer. "I just want to protect you."

And in an absolute treat for fans of The Last of Us games, the member of David's crew who first confronts Ellie in the trailer is a man called James, played by none other than Troy Baker, who originally voiced Joel Miller.

The Last of Us is now streaming on HBO Max. New episodes air every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
