"On a walk in a fragile state," warbles James Mercer as "Dead or Alive" begins, letting you know that it's business as usual for the Shins as they creep out of dormancy. Skulls swirl around and play acoustic guitar as Mercer mulls over anxiety and dips into nostalgia.
The band debuted the song and another new track, "Rubber Balls," live in September.
In a press release, the Shins said they released the single and video as, "a Halloween gift wile you wait for the album." The followup to 2012's Port of Morrow is set to be released next year.
