Massive 25-foot-wide sinkhole opens up in the middle of Brooklyn

A massive sinkhole opened up at a busy intersection in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday morning, causing roads to close as water and gas lines were shut down. There were no reported injuries or reports of cars sucked deep into the Earth.

The hole is approximately 25 feet feet wide and 10 feet deep, according to My Fox NY. The sinkhole was first reported at around 8 a.m. ET, and the cause remains unknown.

The FDNY shared images on Twitter and stated that operations were ongoing.

Residents of the area also shared images of the massive sinkhole on Instagram.

One woman said her sister was walking her dog when they "decided to take a detour" and barely missed the ground collapsing.

Traffic on 5th Avenue was closed in both directions between 63rd and 65th Street until further notice.
