Brian Ries was Mashable’s Real-Time News Editor. In this position, Brian was the point person in developing real-time responses to breaking news and developing stories, using live-blogging tools on Mashable.com as well as Mashable’s prime social media accounts. As Real-Time News Editor he ensured that Mashable’s live news and news-based social content is immediate, urgent and engaging to its audience.
Prior to working at Mashable, Brian was Social Media Editor at Newsweek & The Daily Beast, responsible for using Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr to cover revolutions, disasters, and presidential elections. During his time at The Daily Beast, he contributed to a team that won two Webby Awards for “Best News Site” and his work was nominated for a Shorty Award for "Best News Tumblr,” and a Webby Award for “News and Information." In 2014, Brian was recognized as one of min’s Rising Stars.
Brian is from Philadelphia, loves snowboarding, rescue dogs and The Phish, from Vermont. He is married to a professional photographer and lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with a small farm of adopted animals. He is proudly the world record holder for most tweets sent to MC Hammer in one minute.
