LONDON -- The Rugby World Cup is starting Friday, and someone in Wales got so excited they decided to plough an enormous rugby ball into the side of an historic castle.

Residents of the Welsh capital spotted the ball, which was sticking out of the side of Cardiff Castle, on Friday morning.

Cardiff Castle seems to have had suffered some rugby World Cup damage.. #Wales #MissedThePosts pic.twitter.com/iphSMF9TMH— Darren S (@Von_Schenk) September 18, 2015

Cardiff is buzzing with the #RWC2015 arrival, so we took a photo of the ball which "crashed" into #CardiffCastle! pic.twitter.com/C7F9CSR976— Cardiff Alumni (@CardiffAlumni) September 18, 2015

The photoshops have already started, too.

Couldn't resist a very quick photoshop to make #ballinthewall a Tardis in the Wall :) #doctorwho #tardisinthewall pic.twitter.com/WYdlMlchxm— Adam Walker (@renduh) September 18, 2015

The giant rugby ball is actually an installation commissioned by Cardiff council and created by a company called Wild Creations, according to Wales Online. The ball was put up in secret on Thursday night using a 40-ton crane.

We predict a trend, and aptly #ballinthewall creator Mr Wild was the first to do it. #RWC2015 (pic: @wild_creations) pic.twitter.com/8fVgEapjQ9— I Loves The 'Diff (@ILovesTheDiff) September 18, 2015

The installation ties in nicely with O2's animated "Wear The Rose -- Make Them Giants" advert for the World Cup, which has been getting a lot of attention in the UK over the last week.

Nice work, Cardiff council.
