A small plane taking a practice run before the start of an air show in upstate New York crashed on Friday. The pilot's condition is unknown at this time.

The plane, believed to be a 1998 Giles G-202, appeared to lose its tail moments before the crash, according to pictures taken by Benjamin Granucci.

"The aircraft came in to do another pass, he dove in, and as he pulled up all of a sudden he curved out over the crowd line and sort of started spiraling down," Granucci told Mashable. He said the plane landed behind the tree line with a "thud."

"I didn't see any smoke, didn't see any flames," he said.

There were no spectators at the airshow -- just members of the media and volunteers -- and there are no reports of any injuries on the ground.

Earlier on Friday, residents of the area had taken videos showing the planes practicing their stunts high in the skies above.

The airshow was scheduled to run Saturday and Sunday at Stewart International Airport. It was to include an F-22 Raptor, an F-18 Super Hornet and a AV-8B Harrier, among others.

Asked if the show would be postponed, a man who answered the phone at the event's box office said "everything is still on schedule."

We've reached out to the show's promoter and the airport but haven't heard back.
