LONDON – British supermarket Sainsbury's has provoked widespread confusion (and, in some cases, sheer outrage) with its new #littletwists campaign.
"Little Twists" is basically a series of ideas for ways to spice up meals like lasagne and stir fries by adding ingredients like chorizo and honey – but there's one suggestion that people haven't taken too kindly to.
Sainsburys Twist your favourites campaign. Add chorizo to Lasagne, sure, sounds good. Add Coffee to Spag bol. No. pic.twitter.com/T7XolvnWRI— Retail Barcode (@Retailbarcode) September 6, 2015
Yep, coffee and spaghetti bolognese. Sounds a bit weird, doesn't it?
People have been flocking to social media to vent their confusion.
Seriously @sainsburys, instant coffee to bolognese? This is all kinds of wrong #littletwists pic.twitter.com/Ipk444ppU3— Ben G Robertson (@CareersChapBen) September 6, 2015
What? Add coffee to your spag bol #littletwists #nope @sainsburys pic.twitter.com/NP5xGcxxAq— Claire Proth (@MrsProtherough) September 5, 2015
Errr, no. @sainsburys where did you get this idea? #coffee #foodmistakes pic.twitter.com/u2IkFx2rL0— David (@SpotMonkey) September 2, 2015
But hang on a minute – a quick scan on Google shows that this strange combination might not be such a crazy new idea after all. There are actually a fair few recipe websites and forums (such as the mumsnet.com example below) where people are suggesting the same thing as Sainsbury's.
Maybe – just maybe – it might not be quite so bad after all?
