Pop queen Ariana Grande fronted a group of over 50 diverse, powerful women on stage for her stunning performance at this year's MTV VMAs.

And she brought some particularly important guests to join her: her mom, grandma, and aunt.

Taking the stage at New York's Radio City Music Hall on Monday, Grande performed her empowering anthem "God Is a Woman," from her just-landed album Sweetener.

Putting an entirely female cast into what appears to be a supercharged version of Leonardo Da Vinci's all-male masterpiece The Last Supper, Grande's godly performance was book-ended by arguably the most important women in Grande's life.

For the final moments, she was joined by her aunt Lani Grande, her grandmother Marjorie Grande, and her mother Joan Grande, who stood hand-in-hand with the pop queen at the front of the stage.

"God Is A Woman," is incidentally her grandmother Marjorie's favourite track from Sweetener, and her mum Joan tweeted her support of her daughter's theory that God is, in fact, a woman.

Grande also took out the Best Pop award for her video for "No Tears Left to Cry," and thanked her fans, colleagues, and adorably, her fiance Pete Davidson, who was sitting in the audience, "for existing." Aw.

Here's the winning video, to recap:
