Why people are posting rainbows all over this political party's Facebook page

Social campaign is getting traction after the UK general election.

Theresa May's plan to seek a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) following the disappointing results at the general election has caused serious concerns about the party's human rights record.

The DUP opposes same-sex marriage and Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK where it's not legal.

While Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservative leader, said she's received assurance gay rights wouldn't be touched for DUP support to a minority Tory government in Westminster, people are still worried.

To highlight the issue, Facebook user Conor McKay called on people to access the new rainbow reaction emoji, introduced at the beginning of Pride month, and shower the DUP Facebook page with it.

"Like this page and you get to use a pride reaction in addition to like, wow, angry, sad etc," he wrote: "Then go to the official DUP page and put a rainbow react on the DUP posts so that they have more rainbows than likes. I'm sure the homophobes will love it. Copy this status and spread the word."

As expected, people complied, bombarding the party's page with thousands of rainbow flags and emoji. The most recent post got more than 7,000 rainbow flags:
