It's a well-established British tradition to hold goodbye drinks for colleagues who are leaving, but what about those who aren't actually leaving?

That's the case of UK Prime Minister Theresa May (for now, at least). She lost her Tory majority at the recent UK general election.

A Facebook event for her leaving do, showing the drinks being held at Westminster's Red Lion pub, has more than 48,000 people attending.

"It has been a difficult year for Theresa as PM. Let's all give her a happy send off," the page description reads. "If the page just mysteriously disappears then please arrive in the evening at the venue which was on the page at the time of disappearance."

However, May has no intention of leaving.

Sure, she has said sorry to backbench MP's for getting the Tories into this mess and is promising to get them out. But she's still seeking to form a minority government with the support of the Democratic Unionist Party.

That didn't stop a deluge of creative memes on the event page:

The organiser, Mark Stott, told Metro that he was delighted by the Tories' disappointing general election result.

"I would also like to say that I think any 'neutral” observer of what has happened this week must appreciate how poetic this has been,’ he said. "To see someone so arrogant who wanted to destroy their opposition be absolutely humiliated, and to lose on their own terms so badly, is just pure Schadenfreude!"
