In touching tribute, Judd Apatow makes Garry Shandling the star of his Instagram
LOS ANGELES -- It's no secret that Judd Apatow is a big-hearted guy with a mile-wide sentimental streak, but there is something surprisingly touching about his reaction to the death of Garry Shandling, his dear friend and mentor, who died of a sudden heart attack last Thursday.
Since then, Apatow has posted 23 Shandling-related photos -- and nothing but Shandling-related photos -- on his Instagram account. And counting, by the looks of it.

The latest was a photo of the comedian/writer/producer/beloved colleague as a boy, which Apatow put up midday Wednesday:
Some of Apatow's posts are of the two together, but most are just shots of Shandling at various stages in his life, with a note or a bit of Larry Sanders Show script thrown in for good measure.
Apatow's commitment to keeping vigil -- more than three posts a day now -- is a warm reminder that the late comedian was known to be extraordinarily generous with his time and talents in what may be one of Hollywood's most dog-eat-dog subcultures.
It's also a touching testament to a fruitful cross-generational friendship/mentorship -- the kind you may have thought only exists in TV and movies.
