Even in death, Garry Shandling is a baller host.

The comedian -- who died March 24 at age 66 -- was known in the comedy world for his mentorship of other comics including Sarah Silverman, Judd Apatow and Kevin Nealon, among many others.

Shandling hosted a weekly basketball game every Sunday at his Los Angeles home for his comedian friends. After his unexpected death, his friends and mentees decided to play one last game in his honor on March 27.

Judd Apatow posted the following photo of the Sunday basketball crew at their final gathering.

Joining Apatow at the final pick-up game were Bill Maher, Kathy Griffin, Jeffrey Tambor, Richard Lewis, Sarah Silverman, Kevin Nealon and a host of other famous funny people.

Shandling's weekly basketball game was included in a profile of the comedian in the April 2010 issue of GQ.

"Every Sunday he's in Los Angeles, Shandling calls the game for noon. The invitation-only crowd gathers in his kitchen to drink coffee, and at 12:30, everyone heads out the patio doors, past the pool and down a series of steps into the lower yard," the article reads. "As is the custom, the first person to reach the half-court grabs a leaf blower and sweeps it clean. Then they play: three-on-three to seven points, win by two.

Apparently Apatow was rarely a guest.

"Judd Apatow plays infrequently, but only, he says, because 'Sarah's better than me, and it's shameful for me, as a man, to accept that,'" GQ wrote.
