“The way you affect change is by empowering the grassroots movement,” Grace told the crowd, according to the Washington Post. “By empowering the people.”
HB2 is nicknamed the "bathroom bill" because, among other things, it requires trans people to use bathrooms that correspond to the gender they were assigned at birth. The U.S. Justice Department. recently deemed it a violation of civil rights.
Numerous artists have been cancelling shows in North Carolina to protest the bill, from Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato, to Pearl Jam.
At the show, Grace also saluted fellow rocker Bruce Springsteen, the Post reports, whose show cancellation in early April was seemingly the catalyst for many other performers.
