Merriam-Webster is chucking incendiary tweets ahead of the election

No-one does sass like the dictionary.

Trump surrogate Scottie Nell Hughes made a gaffe on a CNN panel Monday, referring to the molotov cocktails in Jay Z's video for "No Church in the Wild" as "mazel tov cocktails."

The panel, who were discussing the rapper's endorsement of Hillary Clinton, quickly reminded her that the Jewish exclamation has nothing to do with flammable bottles.

Here's the slip up in all its glory.

Of course Twitter was not as merciful as the other panellists as word of the mistake spread.

Everyone's favorite dictionary account was quick with the burn too. Merriam-Webster, who have been fact-checking the words at the debates as this endless election cycle progressed, were straight in with their reaction.

They confirmed that, no, a "mazel tov cocktail" is not a thing.

One of Merriam-Webster's lexicographers, Peter Sokolowski, meanwhile has also been keeping track of word lookups this week - and the results are a strange brew of depressing and somewhat uplifting.

Twitter's lexicographical fact checkers may be the one thing we miss from this long and gruelling race.
