Nigel Farage quits, UKIP's only MP tweets grade-A shade
LONDON -- Prominent Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage has announced he is resigning as leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP).
“During the referendum I said I wanted my country back … now I want my life back,” he said at a press conference.
Farage said he had "done my bit" following Britain's referendum vote to leave the European Union. He pledged he would not change his mind about his resignation as he did after the 2015 general election.

UKIP's only MP, Douglas Carswell, who had criticised the former party leader over UKIP's controversial Breaking Point posters, immediately posted a single emoji in response.
The posters showed large queues of refugees trying to get into Europe.

In a statement, Farage said: “I have decided to stand aside as leader of Ukip. The victory for the ‘leave’ side in the referendum means that my political ambition has been achieved. I came into this struggle from business because I wanted us to be a self-governing nation, not to become a career politician.
“Ukip is in a good position and will continue, with my full support to attract a significant vote. Whilst we will now leave the European Union, the terms of our withdrawal are unclear. If there is too much backsliding by the government and with the Labour party detached from many of its voters then Ukip’s best days may be yet to come.”
Farage said he will retain his seat in the European Parliament to see out the negotiations for Britain's exit from the EU.
