Samsung Galaxy S8's in-box headphones look pretty nice.

How nice? Well, for one, they're from a recognizable brand, which pretty much put Apple's EarPods to shame by default—though that's a low bar to clear.

The new phone was officially unveiled March 29 after a steady stream stream of leaks, and delighted Samsung fans with its "infinity display," internal specs and DeX desktop functionality.

Less hyped, but not to be overlooked, are the in-box earphones that come with the S8.

"New high-performance earphones tuned by AKG by Harman, offering uncompromised audio for unbeatable sound quality, will come as an in-box accessory," reads a Samsung press release. "These earphones will have a comfortable hybrid canal fit for better noise cancellation and will be made from anti-tangle metal-fabric material."

Let's break this down, shall we?

First, the AKG by Harman bit. Samsung acquired Harman in 2016 for $8 billion, and so it makes sense that it would turn to the company for audio. While we'll have to wait until the phone is released on April 21 to try the AKGs out ourselves, Harman is known for making killer noise-canceling headphones. In other words, expect quality.

In comparison, the EarPods that come with an iPhone 7 are, well, Apple EarPods. They've been known to seize up, and of course fall out of practically everyone's ears. The sound? Nothing to write home about.

Interestingly, Apple could take a note from Samsung here. The Cupertino giant acquired headphone maker Beats in 2014 and could simply package an iPhone-specific version of the popular headphones along with its devoces. Instead, if you want a pair of Beats, you have to buy them separately.

Samsung will sell the headphone separately for $99, which suggests Galaxy S8 owners are getting a sweet deal along with the purchase of their new phone.

Oh, and yeah, the headphones fit nicely into the Galaxy S8's headphone jack—no special connectors required.
