Not that we're surprised, tbh.

United Airlines can't seem to get things right when it comes to pets on their flights.

Per the Guardian, a German shepherd named Irgo bound for Kansas City, Mo. was accidentally sent to Japan on Tuesday evening. When his family went to the airport to pick him up, they were presented with a great dane instead.

Apparently, it was the great dane, not Irgo the German shepherd, that was supposed to be sent to Japan.

United issued the following statement to Mashable, and noted that the mixup occurred during a connection in Denver.

An error occurred during connections in Denver for two pets sent to the wrong destinations. We have notified our customers that their pets have arrived safely and will arrange to return the pets to them as soon as possible. We apologize for this mistake and are following up with the vendor kennel where they were kept overnight to understand what happened.

This pet mishap follows on the tail of another unfortunate dog-related incident for United. Earlier this week, a French bulldog named Kokito was placed in the overhead compartment after being ordered to do so by a flight attendant. When the plane landed, the dog was found dead, passing away sometime during the course of the three hour flight.

In a statement, United said the incident involving Kokito was "a tragic accident that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin."

Pets and airlines have made numerous headlines in the past few months, with tales of emotional support animals being denied boarding and other tragic deaths of pets. Though United is not responsible for all of these pet incidents, they do have the largest number of in-flight animal deaths.

The airline has received a bunch of negative press recently due to various incidents last year, including the violent forced removal of a passenger, and the infamous leggings debate. This latest incident adds another item to the growing list of grievances against United.
