Zoe Saldana feels Hollywood has bullied Donald Trump

Donald Trump has made countless racist, misogynistic and downright reprehensible remarks throughout the course of his life, but perhaps Donald Trump is the one who has truly been bullied.

This appears to be the mindset of Guardians of the Galaxy and Avatar star Zoe Saldana, who, though not personally a supporter of the Republican president-elect, feels his victory is due to "bullies" who insulted him during his campaign.

In an interview with AFP on Saturday, Saldana, speaking on self-appointed behalf of the acting community, explained, "We got cocky and became arrogant and we also became bullies."

The 38-year-old actress went on to say that by trying to single out Trump for all of his wrongdoings, people simply "... created empathy in a big group of people in America that felt bad for him and that are believing in his promises."

Saldana's comments follow the battle between Trump and actress Meryl Streep, who used her Golden Globes acceptance speech to discuss her negative views of the president-elect and call attention to the time when he seemed to most people to have mocked a reporter with disabilities.

"I'm learning from (Trump's victory) with a lot of humility," Saldana told AFP after discussing the depiction of racism present in the Deep South in her 2016 film, Live by Night. "If we have people continue to be strong and educate ourselves and stand by equal rights and treat everyone with respect, we won't go back to those times," she said with confidence.

Though her comments are definitely an unconventional response to Trump, Saldana, who recently caused a great deal of controversy over her starring role in the Nina Simone biopic, Nina,which features her wearing darker makeup on her skin, is not alone in her opinions.

Actress Nicole Kidman also made somewhat sympathetic remarks about Trump earlier this week when she told BBC's "Victoria Derbyshire" show it's about time Americans start accepting the president-elect.

"I just say he's now elected and we as a country need to support whoever's the president because that's what the country's based on. However that happened, he's there, and let's go," Kidman said.

With Trump's inauguration on Friday, we have a feeling the divided opinions are just getting started.
