VR is the hot new tech that everyone is trying to get into these days — Facebook, Microsoft and even Dell are all moving into that space. So far they’re mostly focused on gaming and interactive experiences, with a few forays into short-form video content.

Cinera, currently raising money on Kickstarter, wants to use VR headsets to level up your home theater system, bringing the immersive experience of a movie theater to the comfort of your own couch. We haven’t seen a focus on cinema in the VR space before, so many of Cinera’s features are groundbreaking.

There are a lot of fancy numbers and stats that make Cinera a unique experience (you can check them all out on the Kickstarter page), but the most important of which is the dual screen. Basically, instead of splitting one screen across the headset, each eye has its own screen, which allows for a fully immersive experience without sacrificing image quality or wasting screen area.

A common complaint with VR is the headset — it puts all of the weight of this bulky machine on your head and neck, which would definitely be exhausting to bear for the full length of a movie. Cinera comes with a moveable arm that holds the console up for you.

If you’re looking for a cutting-edge new addition to your home theater system, you can back the Kickstarter now for up to 50 percent off retail price. Don’t let gamers be the only ones who get the cool new tech.
